Auditions
The Great American Melodrama and Vaudeville (TGAM) is a professional non-Equity theatre that has run year ‘round in Oceano, CA since 1975. Our shows are high-energy comedies or musicals followed by song, dance and comedy revues, so we look for strong actor/singers who can move. Our company size varies from 5 to 9.
INFORMATION FOR ADULT PERFORMERS
The Melodrama hires professional actors from around the country. Our primary source of talent is the Unified Professional Theatre Auditions (UPTA), which are held each February in Memphis, TN. (Information on these auditions can be found at their website at www.upta.org.) Additionally, beginning in August 2010 we will hold general auditions once a year at our theatre in Oceano. (Check back here in summer 2010 to find out the date and time of these auditions. Appointments will be required.) Please note that actors wishing to work at TGAM need to be available for daytime rehearsals and evening performances. All roles are paid. Those wishing to audition at our generals should prepare 1-2 short monologues, at least one of which must be comic, as well as 2 contrasting songs (32 bars each). The entire audition cannot exceed 3 minutes. An accompanist will be provided so make sure to have clean, readable sheet music for your songs. We will also need a copy of your headshot and resume.
Those unable to attend generals may send a picture and resume to:
Eric Hoit, Artistic Director, TGAM, PO Box 1026, Oceano, CA 93475
No phone calls, please. If Mr. Hoit is interested in seeing you he will contact you to arrange an audition.
AUDITIONS FOR YOUNG PERFORMERS
For our annual production of A Christmas Carol and occasionally for other shows during our season, TGAM has roles for children. Auditions for these shows are announced in local newspapers and on this page of our website. Children cast in Melodrama shows are paid a training wage.
For our production of A Christmas Carol we look for boys age 5 to 14 and girls age 5 to 18. Auditions are held at the Melodrama (1863 Front St - Hwy 1 in Oceano). Auditions should include a memorized rhyme or monologue and a verse of a song to be sung a capella. An accompanist is not provided. Auditions must be under 2 minutes. The 2010 auditions for A Christmas Carol will be held Sunday, Sept. 12 at 3 p.m. and Monday, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m.
